Team

Legal Design means passion – our job is to inspire lawyers of any organization. Our team is passionate about driving things forward – in the legal world and beyond.
Depending on the projects at hand we extend our in-house team and scale through our network as needed. Meet the core team.

Founder

Astrid Kohlmeier

Astrid Kohlmeier is a lawyer and internationally renowned legal design pioneer. She has been combining law and design for more than 15 years, with senior roles in the insurance-, litigation finance- and service design industries.
The legal design expert advises legal inhouse departments and law firms such as Clifford Chance, Linklaters, Airbus, SAP, NetApp and many more. Winner of several design awards as well as honoured as „woman of legal tech“, she develops user-centric legal solutions with a focus on innovation and digital transformation. Astrid is a member and lecturer of the Executive Faculty at the Bucerius Center on the Legal Profession, co-founder of the non-profit organization „Liquid Legal Institute e.V.“, speaker at relevant conferences worldwide and works with a global network of legal designers. She is actively engaged at the intersection of education and method development to establish the profession of “ legal designers“ worldwide.
Junior Legal Designer

Franziska Jensen

Franziska Jensen is a lawyer, design thinker and junior legal designer.
During her law studies at the University of Hamburg, she offered voluntary legal advice for refugees, organized social projects, led mediation seminars in an interdisciplinary tandem, and researched the question of how to meet human needs in planning procedures under public law.
After graduation, she went to the School of Design Thinking of the Hasso Plattner Institute at the University of Potsdam for a certificate program. In collaboration with the Chambers for Green Tech, she worked on a design challenge in the field of innovative, sustainable technologies and knowledge management on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection.
She is now working with AK Legal Design on a wide variety of legal design projects and advocates for public legal design services.
Legal Design Trainee

Marion Schmidt

„What fascinates me about Legal Design is the combination of law and creative, innovative and human-centered work. Law needs to be accessible for everyone – Legal Design is the key!“
Marion Schmidt is a lawyer and has been working for AK LEGAL DESIGN since October 2021, first as an intern and then as a legal design trainee.
After studying law in Gießen and Mainz, she completed an LL.M. in Dijon. Besides, Marion has already gained experience in major international law firms in the areas of IP/IT and banking supervisory law. She is still in her legal clerkship at the Higher Regional Court of Frankfurt a.M. and will spend her practical training period at AK LEGAL DESIGN.
Senior Designer

Tobias Heumann

Originally a freelance designer and thinker, Tobi has worked with agencies and companies alike. Usually, he is involved in anything loosely along the lines of branding, UI/UX, concept development, strategy and human-centered design and, of course, Legal Design.
With more than fifteen years of communications and design thinking, Tobi has supported small businesses and international corporations, mostly in the ballpark of tech, mobility, the arts, design and fashion – but really, he’s comfortable pretty much everywhere. Also, he’s a part of UNCPROP Modular, just in case you are synthesizers.
